Optimizing Sprinkler Placement in Office Building: A Step-by-Step Guide

Sprinkler Layout Considerations

NFPA 13 Spacing

Standard coverage typically 130-225 SF per head depending on hazard.

Coordinate with Lighting

Don't place sprinklers right next to recessed fixtures or speakers.

Hazard Classification

Light vs ordinary hazard changes head count and pipe sizing.

Test Drawings with Hydraulics

Calculation must show the most demanding head meets pressure requirements.

Okay, let's continue. Let's pan over to this area. We'll start at the Reception Room.

Let's copy the selection and move these 2,4, 6,8, 10 feet. Make sure we are hosted correctly. We are on Level 2. Did we host those sprinklers in this area? Let's double check.

It's always good to double check. Use Filter. Get rid of dimensions.

Sprinklers. Yes, we are hosted. Okay, let's go back here.

Let's go to the Counselor Room. We can go to Create Similar and we'll place one. Make sure we're at the intersection.

Now we are hosted to the ceiling. Let's go to the Move tool. Move up 1 foot. Press ENTER.

Move over 1 foot and copy the selection. 2,4, 6,8, 10 feet. And make sure this is hosted to Level 2. Okay, let's go to the Resource Room.

Use Create Similar. We'll find the intersection here and select it.

Move to the left 1 foot. Press ENTER. Move up 1 foot.

And we'll copy this down. Let's start with 12 feet. How is our spacing to there? We're looking to be okay, but to be safe, let's move another 2 feet.

And again, since we copied it, we need to make sure that we are hosting to Level 2. Okay, let's do the Work Room and this toilet. Since we're using ceiling tiles here, we'll use our semi-recessed sprinklers. Use Create Similar.

Let's place one at this intersection. Move 1 foot. Press ENTER.

And move up 1 foot. We will copy this one. 2,4, 6,8, 10 feet.

We will copy these over. Let's go 14 feet. That looks good.

Make sure they are all hosted to the ceiling. We'll select all of them and choose Level 2. Okay, let's do the toilet. This is a gypsum board ceiling area, so let's find our concealed sprinkler.

Use Create Similar. Okay, now since this is such a small room, we're only going to need one sprinkler. Generally, we'll try to place it in the center of the room.

There's no reason to place it in one of the corners unless there ends up being something else in the ceiling like a light or a diffuser, which we don't see in our model right now. So for now, we'll just place it somewhere in the middle, about here, and ensure it's hosted to Level 2.
