Creating Dynamic Peeling Animations in After Effects
Master Professional Motion Graphics and Visual Effects
Always save project files with descriptive names including your name and lesson topic. For client work, use the client's naming convention to maintain organization and professionalism.
Essential Peeling Animation Components
Source Graphics
Image cut into separate pieces using Photoshop or similar image editing software. Each piece becomes an individual layer for animation.
CC Page Turn Effect
After Effects built-in effect that simulates paper folding and peeling motions. Found in Effects and Presets panel.
Layer Organization
Photoshop groups automatically convert to precomps when imported as composition, maintaining clean project structure.
Setting Up CC Page Turn Effect
Apply Effect to Layer
Search for CC Page Turn in Effects and Presets panel and drag to your target layer. Effect will be visible immediately.
Choose Fold Origin
Select fold position anchor point based on desired animation direction. Top left for right-to-left motion, bottom right for opposite direction.
Set Animation Length
Determine animation duration (15 frames recommended) and enable stopwatch for fold position keyframes.
Position Keyframes
Set ending position as flat surface, then adjust starting position by dragging fold position control or clicking in viewport.
CC Page Turn Effect Analysis
Use H key for hand tool to pan timeline view, middle mouse scroll to zoom in/out, and U key to reveal keyframes on selected layers. These shortcuts dramatically speed up animation workflow.
Back Page Customization Checklist
Prevents confusing duplicate imagery on reverse side of fold
White works well for paper effect, but match your design needs
Ensures solid appearance and prevents transparency issues
Maintains visual coherence throughout the animation sequence
