Creating Animations with Layer Control and Effects
Master Professional Animation Techniques with Layer Control
Animation Project Components
Layer Management
Control visibility and positioning of multiple layers including background, photos, and company logos. Proper layering ensures smooth transitions.
Background Control
Manage oversized background layers that are 2-3 times wider than composition. Use fading techniques to control visibility.
Logo Integration
Import PNG files and coordinate logo movement with layer sliding animations. Create reverse motion effects for professional results.
Animation Setup Process
Background Layer Preparation
Fade out the background layer to show left side visible and right side hidden, creating space for logo reveal
Company Logo Addition
Import PNG logo file from images folder and position it properly in the layer hierarchy
Controller Integration
Add logo to controller system so it slides in as other layers slide left, creating reverse motion effect
Wipe Effect Types
| Feature | Linear Wipe | Other Wipe Effects |
|---|---|---|
| Direction | Straight line fade in any direction | Circular or gradient-based |
| Animation | Can be static or animated | Various animation patterns |
| Control | Angle and completion percentage | Varies by type |
| Use Case | Background visibility control | Creative transitions |
Background layers are intentionally made 2-3 times wider than the composition to accommodate sliding animations and ensure full coverage during transitions.
Linear Wipe Application
Search for Effect
In Effects and Presets, search for 'linear' and select Linear Wipe from the Transition group
Apply to Layer
Drag effect onto layer name or double-click when layer is selected to apply the linear wipe
Configure Settings
Adjust Transition Completion to 50% and set Wipe Angle to negative 90 for proper direction
Linear Wipe Settings
When you see the background color in the composition, you're actually seeing empty space. During export, this becomes black in the final video output.
Logo Positioning Checklist
Ensures proper layer hierarchy for animation flow
Creates space for the slide-in reveal effect
Follows designer specifications for optimal visual placement
Allows for white and black logo variations as needed
Layer Movement Techniques
Pixel-Level Control
Use arrow keys for single pixel movement. Essential for precise positioning and fine-tuning layer placement in animations.
Bulk Movement
Shift + arrow keys move layers 10 pixels at a time. Efficient for larger adjustments while maintaining precision control.
Layer duplication is only available through keyboard shortcuts (Cmd/Ctrl+D) or the Edit menu. Right-click context menu does not include this option.
