Creating and Organizing Data Groups
Master data organization through groups and sets
Groups are a manual method of subdividing dimensions into custom categories that don't exist in your original data, while sets allow you to create dynamic subsets based on conditions.
Groups vs Sets Comparison
| Feature | Groups | Sets |
|---|---|---|
| Assignment Method | Manual | Conditional/Automatic |
| Icon Type | Paperclip | Union Symbol |
| Flexibility | Limited | High |
| Update Behavior | Static | Dynamic |
| Common Usage | Less Frequent | More Frequent |
Creating Data Groups Process
Select Dimension
Right-click on the dimension you want to create groups from in your data fields
Choose Create Group
Select the 'Create Group' option from the context menu to open the dialog box
Name Your Field
Assign a name to the entire field that will contain your groups (e.g., 'Power Type')
Create Group Categories
Manually create individual groups and assign items using drag-and-drop or dropdown selection
Apply and Visualize
Click OK to save your groups and use them in visualizations for data analysis

Group Creation Methods
Drag and Drop
Physically drag items from the list into your created groups. This visual method makes it easy to see what belongs where.
Dropdown Selection
Use the dropdown menu next to items to assign them to specific groups. Efficient for bulk assignments.
Multi-Select
Hold Shift for contiguous selection or Control for non-contiguous selection to group multiple items at once.
Remember that groups require manual assignment like breakout rooms in Zoom. If you leave items unassigned, they will create their own category automatically.
Using Groups in Data Analysis
Groups are just like breakout rooms on Zoom - everyone has to be put in a breakout room, and if you leave them out, they're not going to be there.
Best Practices for Data Groups
Consider how you want to analyze your data and what categories make business sense
Clear naming helps team members understand the purpose and content of each group
Leaving items unassigned creates unwanted orphaned categories
Record the criteria used for grouping to maintain consistency over time
If your categorization rules are condition-based, sets might be more appropriate
