Creating Plumbing and Mechanical Equipment Schedules in Revit

CFM, GPM, kW — operating parameters.

This Revit tutorial walks through creating plumbing and mechanical equipment schedules in revit, covering essential tools and techniques for your projects.

We're ready to populate this on a sheet. I'm going to go here to Plumbing Schedules. I can go ahead and go to my Plumbing Fixture Schedule.

There we go. And we can just go ahead and drop it, like say, right here. It seems like everything fits.

I'm going to go ahead. You can adjust it here on the sheet also. So I went ahead and adjusted that as such.

Again, obviously, there's probably a ton of different schedules we can do, but we'll go ahead and do one more, which will be a Mechanical Equipment Schedule. So let's go here to Schedules, Schedule Quantities. I'm going to go down and find Mechanical Equipment.

There we go. I'm going to hit OK.

So let's go to Type Mark. Let's go to Family. Let's go to Manufacturer.

Let's go to Model and Type Comments. OK. Again, I like to just get this populated.

We might have to change that name a little bit, but that's easy to do. Interestingly enough, this one's not using the Type Mark. We populated tags for this.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to switch it out for Mark. And that's kind of a function of what the tag is showing. When we filled this out, we filled it out with the tag.

So I'm going to remove Type Mark. Hit OK. And there it is. Sorting and Grouping.

I'm going to sort by Mark. I'm not going to itemize every single instance. Hit OK.

If we wanted to, and then—oh, I need to change my Appearance. Let's get off the Schedule Default. So go to your Appearance tab.

Then I'll bring up this. Let's bring up the outline, give it a little bit of line weight. We’ll use line weight 3, quarter-inch Arial, 3/32" centered, all 3/32" centered.

OK. There we go. I can go in here and type Mark.

I can type in a Description, Manufacturer, Model, and Comments—whatever you choose, whether it be Remarks or something else—just always be consistent. Then I could change this to be capitalized: Mechanical Equipment Schedule. There we go.

Now, you can't really change the name here. This is part of that. So what I can go ahead and do though is go down to my Families, and under my Mechanical Equipment, I'm going to change this name.

So I'm going to go ahead, right-click, rename this, and I'm just going to name this Water Heater.

Boom. And notice how it changed there. For the Gas Meter, I'm just going to go ahead and rename it Gas Meter.

Boom. The other thing we forgot to do is center all of this. So I'm going to go ahead.

I'm going to go to my Formatting tab. I'm going to take Mark, Family, Manufacturer, and Model, and change the alignment here to Center. Hit OK.

And there we are. If you want to go ahead, go ahead and pop in a Manufacturer there. Pop in a Model Number.

If you know it off the top of your head, I'm going to leave them blank for now. But if you know some, maybe some typical comments or things like that—for example, this may be not in contract and might have to be installed by the public utility—so I might say “N.I.C.” and “Installed by local utility.”

And since that's a type, it will be applied to all the types there. And there we go.

I'm going to go ahead. I'm going to go over to my Plumbing Schedules. I'm going to grab my Mechanical Equipment Schedule, drag it over.

It will align. I do kind of like to make these line up. So you can always go ahead and—this is kind of a cool trick—you can grab this, and it's only going to move left or right. If you move your mouse up and down, it's not going to change the vertical position at all. So what you can do is drag your mouse up here and then drag over a little bit to align these so the schedules are reading the same way.

I know I have fewer fields here, so I might cheat a little bit and just make the Comments column a little bit longer. And there we go.

Now my schedules look the same exact way. Great. We've created a couple of schedules.

Again, a schedule is just a table view of your model at any given point in time. We're just filtering it. This one is seeing only Plumbing Fixtures.

This one is only seeing Mechanical Equipment. It's really nice and it's a very powerful tool for filling out data across a project.
