Configuring AutoCAD for VDCI Template: Command Options and System Variables
Master AutoCAD Template Configuration for Professional Workflows
Working in template files (DWT format) allows you to save command defaults and system variables that will be applied to all new drawings created from this template.
Command Option Configuration Process
Access Fillet Command
Navigate to Home tab and use the Fillet command with right-click Radius option
Set Fillet Radius to Zero
Confirm Fillet Radius is set to 0 instead of the default 0.5 value in 2014 and earlier versions
Configure Text Height
Use Single Line Text command and set variable height to 6 instead of default 1/8
Save Template
Use File > Save As to save changes to the DWT template file
AutoCAD Version Default Differences
| Feature | 2014 and Earlier | Current Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Fillet Radius | 0.5 | 0 |
| Text Height | 1/8 | 6 |
System Variable Categories
Command Options
Variables that control default settings for drawing commands like Fillet and Text. These are saved within the template file for consistent behavior.
User Interface Variables
System variables linked to the CUIX file that control display options, performance settings, and visual feedback during operations.

PDMode value of 0 creates tiny dots that are difficult to see. Setting PDMode to 3 provides better visibility for point objects in your drawings.
Essential System Variables to Configure
Improves performance during pan and zoom operations
Allows resizing without printing borders
Makes point objects clearly visible
Controls arc display during non-regenerative zoom
Two comprehensive PDF documents are provided: Command Options for drawing command defaults and User Interface for system variables. Use these resources to fully configure your VDCI template.
